Poetry flew into my life one night
on the wings of another's writing
She came calling my name
asking me to step into the dark
trust this new friend
open my heart and soul
reach down, draw forth
She saved my life
carried me through the dark night
brought me to life
slowly unfurled beauty
buried under the dross
of too many broken promises
long deep disappointments
trauma and pain
She continues to call my name
ever revealing new avenues
asking me to open myself
become a wellspring
of her words
spread love and promise
like butterflies kissing the dew
of a better world
I hear her call
I answer
Yes I will follow
I will open
I will write
as long as there are words
I am yours forever
